STRINE WHINE: ISSUE 08

by STRINE WHINE

/
  • STRINE WHINE: ISSUE 08 printed in A4 black-and-white.

IN THE EIGHTH ISSUE OF STRINE WHINE:

LEARNING TO LOVE HEARTBREAK W/ DOGOOD'S ALI DUGUID: Off the back of two singles, Melbourne’s Alexandra Duguid has already proven a knack for the heartwrenching. Where dya go when your heart’s been stomped? To music.

Reviews of releases from Summer Flake, Camp Cope, LAZERTITS, Ecca Vandal, Alice Ivy, Elizabeth Rose, Ara Koufax, Fortunes, You Beauty, The Drones, NO ZU, Hilltop Hoods, L-FRESH the LION, Simona Castricum, and Alex Lahey.

I WANT MY ABABCD: Twenty years ago this year, Australian television went through two formative births for folks hunting for their Cool, launching MTV Australia and Recovery. Decades later and conventional television has all but abandoned the marriage between itself and music, leaving enterprising newcomers to start their own channels. That’s what Nick Clarke and Zachary Bradtke did when they started Banalarama. An umbrella for their typically unconventional but incisive film work, it also covers ABABCd, a music show Clarke and Bradtke started to support and expose Australian bands. Filmed in front of a live audience at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel, the new season is their most polished and prominent yet. So why aren’t more people tuning in?
