I WANT MY ABABCD: Twenty years ago this year, Australian television went through two formative births for folks hunting for their Cool, launching MTV Australia and Recovery. Decades later and conventional television has all but abandoned the marriage between itself and music, leaving enterprising newcomers to start their own channels. That’s what Nick Clarke and Zachary Bradtke did when they started Banalarama. An umbrella for their typically unconventional but incisive film work, it also covers ABABCd, a music show Clarke and Bradtke started to support and expose Australian bands. Filmed in front of a live audience at Melbourne’s Gasometer Hotel, the new season is their most polished and prominent yet. So why aren’t more people tuning in?
